RE: PRESS RELEASE – VIOLENT CRIME
Ulster County District Attorney Holley Carnright and
Kingston Police Department Chief Egidio Tinti announce that violent crime in
the City of Kingston
is down dramatically.
According to crime statistics kept by the Division of
Criminal Justice Services to date violent crime in the City of Kingston for 2012 is down 34%. Through May, when these statistics were compiled,
we have had no murders, no rapes, and robbery is down 44%. Burglaries in Kingston are also down (17%), although larceny
arrests have actually increased.
“I realize crime is somewhat cyclical, but, hopefully these
statistics reflect the work ethic and proactive investigative efforts done by
our departments. Other police agencies
that serve Ulster
County, notably the
Sheriff’s Department and the NYS Police, deserve credit as well. I do not believe it is a coincidence that
crime in Kingston
is down so dramatically on the heels of the Clean Sweep Operation’s success”,
stated District Attorney Carnright.
“It is through the strengthened commitment and teamwork of
our local law enforcement agencies that we are able to better serve the
community. In addition, state funded
programs such as Operation Impact provide the needed resources and supplies to
allow our officers to be more proactive in their approaches to investigating
criminal activity. The Kingston Police
Department will continue to work towards making Kingston a safer city”, stated Kingston
Police Egidio Tinti.
